Phelps County Focus: “From G.R.A.C.E.: Please help your neighbor!”

G.R.A.C.E. (Greater Rolla Area Charitable Enterprise) is a local non-profit created in 2000 to respond to emergency needs in Phelps County.

At present, we are operating with a minimal crew, but we are still taking calls and helping with assistance as much as possible. We are also doing a food distribution weekly from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays on the Elm Street dock side.

Tina Davis, Executive Director, has stated that a number of the calls she is receiving are from local folks who have never reached out to G.R.A.C.E. before. As this situation with Covid-19 continues, we foresee this trend continuing and most likely increasing.

This is by far the most significant emergency situation we are all facing, and G.R.A.C.E. wants to be prepared to help as much as possible. Those around us with no financial buffers are the hardest hit as we go forward. The most pressing needs are homes to stay in, power for that home and food to feed the ones in that home. G.R.A.C.E. is already taking requests for help with rent/mortgage payments, utility bills and food. We anticipate these requests will be increasing and will go on for some time in the immediate future.

Please remember that many households unexpectedly now have their children home all the time and maybe even additional family members during the stay-at-home order. This creates potentially stressful times and increases the daily food requirements. We can make these times easier to deal with by making additional food available and working toward more financial assistance. G.R.A.C.E. is making plans to achieve these goals and humbly asks for your help to make this happen.

Please help us take care of Phelps County citizens in these uncertain times and relieve them of some of their burdens. Monetary donations may be mailed to G.R.A.C.E. at P.O. Box 264, Rolla, MO 65402 or online at www.gracerolla.org. Food donations would also be very welcome.

Please call 573-368-5577 to schedule a drop-off or for other questions.
